The theme

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force has operated an aviation branch of its own since the fifties and its machines carry unmistakable markings: a combination of national insignia, tactical numbers and lettering in the domestic script as well as in the Latin alphabet. For a modeler it is a rewarding theme precisely because it appears in ordinary kits only rarely, so a finished model stands out from the row.

What the sheet contains

This is a sheet of decals in 1:72 scale, the second part of a series devoted to the equipment of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. Which particular machines, units and color finishes the sheet covers and which kits it is prepared for are given by the enclosed manufacturer's instructions.

Application tips

The decals are applied by the usual wet procedure, but the exact instructions are to be found in the leaflet. The base must be smooth and glossy, otherwise a white veil appears under the film. Trim the item as closely as possible, soak it briefly, move it into place, draw the excess water off and let it dry without moving it. On broken up surfaces and over rivets a softener helps. At the end seal the finished markings with varnish, which unifies the sheen of the whole model.

For builders who are looking for less usual markings for 1:72 scale and for modelers collecting Japanese postwar equipment. It also finds use as a supplement for models whose original decals have aged or been damaged.
