About product

Persian Heavy Cavalry Warrior, 1:32, Master Box

An injection-molded plastic figure in 1:32 scale from Master Box, part of a series devoted to the Greco-Persian Wars. The set portrays a Persian heavy cavalryman and contains the figure of the warrior as well as the horse - so it is a mounted group, not a figure standing on its own. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; neither glue nor paints are included in the package.

The real subject

Heavy cavalry belonged to the elite arms of the Persian army of the ancient era. The riders came from the upper classes, were protected by scale or lamellar armor and a helmet and fought with a spear and a sword; often the horse was partly protected as well. It was precisely the cavalry that formed one of the greatest strengths of Persian armies - the mobility and striking power that the Greek hoplite phalanx found hard to balance in the open field. The clashes of the Greek city states with the Persian empire in the first half of the fifth century BC are among the best known episodes of ancient history, and the Persian horseman is their characteristic image. The figure is offered as an artistic miniature with the emphasis on the pose, the drapery and the detail of the equipment.

Building and painting tips

Figures are glued with a thin plastic cement and the main work lies in cleaning up the seams - sand and if necessary fill the parting lines on the arms, the legs and the body of the horse, because once painted every raised line shows. It works well to build and paint the rider and the horse separately and to join them only at the end; you can then reach both the figure and the horse from every side. The basis is a thin primer, ideally sprayed, and then classic shading: a base tone, a darker wash into the folds and gradual lightening of the raised surfaces. Metal armor looks best when you do not rely on silver paint alone - a dark undercoat, a metallic shade rubbed on dry with a brush and a fine wash give the scales depth. Textiles take richer colors with strong contrast. Build the horse's coat up in layers with smooth transitions; do the eyes, the nostrils and the hooves last with a fine brush. Unify the finished figure with matte varnish and leave the gloss only on the eyes and the metal.

Who the figure is for

  • Anyone who wants to practice painting armor, textiles and a horse's coat
  • Builders of dioramas from antiquity

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. The set contains the figure of the Persian horseman as well as the horse, so it is a complete mounted group.

They are not. The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted, so paints and glue have to be bought separately.

The 1:32 scale corresponds roughly to the 54 mm format, a size that is easy to hold and on which the detail of the armor and the face is comfortable to paint.
