A gold metallic shade from the Premium Color range from Vallejo. Metallic paints differ from ordinary ones in what floats in them: instead of pigment alone they contain fine metal particles that lie side by side on the surface once dry and reflect the light. That is where the metallic sheen comes from, and also all the demands such a coat makes on the preparation of the surface beneath.
Gold is used on models less often than steel or aluminum, but it is all the more conspicuous where it belongs: on frames and strips, on decorative elements and emblems, on parts of equipment and on interior fittings. It also has its place with figures, where it is used on fittings and ornaments, and in a scene on small equipment. It is suitable too for collector's and modeling work outside classic scale models.
The metal particles sink to the bottom faster than ordinary pigment, so mix the bottle thoroughly before use and during the work. A metallic coat hides nothing, rather the opposite: every scratch and fingerprint on the surface beneath will be more visible once it has dried, so smooth the area beforehand, degrease it and go over it with a primer. The best sheen comes out on a smooth, sealed and preferably darker surface. Put it on in thin coats. Thinning, cleaning tools and the pressure when spraying follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging; clean tools straight after the work, because the metal particles settle in them.
The paint is supplied on its own. Thinner, primer, a final varnish and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
