DSPIAE LM10/6000 Liquid Model Rubbing Compound, 6000 grit

This is a liquid polishing compound for plastic models, not a paint and not a varnish. The manufacturer offers it in four grades, 2000, 4000, 6000 and 10000, and intends it for polishing to a high gloss and for removing ingrained dirt. The 6000 grade is the next to last step: it comes after the coarser compound and before the finest grade of 10000. The compound does not fill anything and does not cover anything; it only reduces the roughness of the surface step by step until the light reflects off it as off glass.

Use

• First wipe the surface clean and free it of dust.
• Apply a small amount to a polishing sponge or a cloth and spread it into a thin layer.
• Polish with a circular motion without pressure and work from the coarser grade to the finer one.
• Wipe the surface before changing grade so that the coarser grain does not draw new scratches.
• When working with a power tool, use the compound sparingly, otherwise it sprays around.

Who it is for

For modelers finishing gloss surfaces: car and motorcycle bodywork, painted hulls or clear parts after sanding. The compound will not level deep scratches; those should be sanded out beforehand with a fine abrasive. With clear parts, on the other hand, the 6000 grade and up is often the only way to bring back transparency after sanding.

Do not use it on varnish that has not fully dried or on freshly applied decals, as the surface would be damaged. Protect your eyes and wash your hands after the work. Polishing sponges, a cloth and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
