A small set of six 24/29 machine guns for the small 1:72 scale; half of them are ready to fire from deployed legs.
Responsibility details are not available.
This automatic weapon, adopted at the end of the 1920s, outlived the defeat of 1940 and both sides of the conflict that followed. It was used by Free French units, appeared in the hands of resistance fighters and then accompanied French soldiers into Indochina and North Africa. Only the arrival of modern assault rifles pushed it into the stores, though in colonial garrisons it could still be met in the 1960s.
A small scale puts the emphasis on silhouette, and with this weapon the silhouette is unmistakable. Even a casting a few millimeters long with its typical angular magazine gives away at once whose unit it is. The set offers both the usual positions of the support, so it can fill a vehicle bed as well as a trench or the edge of a roof.
Working with parts this small calls for patience. It pays to work over a light surface so that a casting does not disappear, and to use tweezers with a bent tip. Apply the paint well thinned, otherwise the fine engraving of the cooling fins on the barrel will be lost.
In a small scale it pays to work with the whole rather than with particulars. A weapon placed in the right spot does more than the finest detail: a barrel projecting from a window, a pair of pieces leaning against a wall, a machine gun laid on the hood of a parked car. The viewer reads mainly the placement, and in this scale that is the main means of expression.
