A set of three polishing wheels from the Taiwanese brand Madworks, which specializes in modeling tools. The wheels are fitted into a drill or a rotary tool and serve to polish plastic and painted surfaces to a high gloss. Each of them is intended for a different stage of polishing and the manufacturer distinguishes them by color, so that they do not get mixed up during work.

Use

• the coarse wheel at the start, when the marks left by sanding are still disappearing
• the fine wheel to level the surface and remove haze
• the finest wheel to finish off and to apply wax
• polishing clear parts, cowlings, canopies and painted car bodies
• repairing places where the gloss of the paint was lost during sanding

How to work with them

Polishing always follows sanding, typically from 2000 grit upwards, otherwise the wheel will only emphasize the scratches. The manufacturer makes a separate line of polishing compounds for them, which are not in the package. Work at low speed and do not hold the wheel in one place: friction heats plastic quickly and it can deform or go white. Wipe the surface between stages so that the coarser compound does not get onto the fine wheel.

Who the set is for

For modelers who do glossy surfaces: cars, motorcycles, clear canopies or display pieces with a deep gloss finish. It also serves well for repairs, when the gloss has to be brought back after sanding. Polishing compounds and wax are not included in the package.
