A replacement astrodome in the early form for models of the SNB-2 aircraft in 1:48 scale. An accessory to a kit; the model is not part of the delivery.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation SNB-2 was used by the US Navy for a twin-engine trainer derived from the Beechcraft Model 18, on which navigators were trained. On the upper side of the fuselage the machine had a transparent dome, the so-called astrodome. The navigator pushed a sextant through it and measured his position by the stars and the sun, which on long flights over the sea was the only reliable way of fixing a place. The dome differed in shape during production and repairs, and the name of this part refers to its early form.
It is a single replacement part in 1:48 scale that replaces the dome on a kit. A more accurate shape and a thinner wall are visible at first sight on a transparent part, because that is exactly where one looks into a model. The extent of the delivery and the recommended procedure for seating it are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The opening in the fuselage of a kit usually needs altering; sand the seating surface a little at a time and keep trying the fit dry. Glue the dome with a glue intended for clear parts or with white PVA glue, as both dry without clouding; super glue, by contrast, can fog a transparent surface. Before spraying, mask the dome off with masking tape and leave only the frame uncovered. Finish the interior under the dome before you seat it, as afterward you will no longer get inside.
The accessory will be appreciated by modelers who build the SNB-2 in 1:48 scale and want to have the accurate early form. The model itself, paints and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
