A set of two seats for the tandem cockpit of the Phantom in the service of the US Air Force, a printed replacement for the parts from Tamiya, Academy, Revell and Redpill kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Phantom II was originally a navy machine, but after a series of comparative trials the US Air Force asked for it as well, and in the end it became its most numerous combat type of the 1960s. The versions with a ground role received dual controls, different avionics and finally a built-in gun too. In the war in Southeast Asia they served as fighter escort, as an attack aircraft and as a specialized radar hunter. The two-member crew sat one behind the other under a long canopy, so both seats on a model are visible at once.
The set contains a pair of seats, that is the front and the rear position. The H7 series differs from earlier types in the shape of the backrest, the arrangement of the firing handle and the details of the back section, which are well apparent precisely in a large scale. Printing makes it possible to render even elements that could not be taken out of a classic mold without undercuts.
Try fitting both seats dry into the cockpit tub first, because every kit has a slightly different interior and sometimes the sides need a light sanding. Painting goes quickest from a dark base toward the light upholstered areas; the small levers and handles are then finished with the point of a brush. The result is rounded off only by adding the seat belts, which are not in the set. The set is intended for Tamiya, Academy, Revell and Redpill kits. The rear station tends to be neglected on two-seat machines, and yet under an open canopy it is looked at just as often as the front one, so it deserves the same care.
