The most common weak point of street dioramas is the edge. The roadway ends at the edge of the base and the scene falls apart, because the eye has nowhere to continue. A guardrail solves this problem twice over: it closes the scene off at the side and at the same time creates a horizontal line that shows the viewer perspective and depth. Six parts in the package are enough for a fair stretch of railing and for a couple of segments to be used elsewhere.
A steel guardrail has a profile in the shape of a double wave which crumples on impact and leads the energy away to the side. It is exactly that wave that matters on a model, because the light breaks on it and the part thereby reads as metal. Three-dimensional printing manages it sharply, without rounding the edges off as pressing into a mold would.
What you get is an element that gives a scene its edge, and that tends to be the difference between a finished scene and a base still under construction.
