Markings of Ukrainian vehicles of the years 2014 and 2015 in 1:35 scale. According to the name these are flags carried on antennas, battalion markings and vehicle numbers. The abbreviation ATO in the name stands for the Anti-Terrorist Operation, that is the official designation of the fighting in eastern Ukraine at the time.
A flag on an antenna belonged to the typical look of the equipment of that time: it served for quick recognition of one's own vehicle at a distance and is visible even where the side of the vehicle is covered by kit or by the crew. Unit markings and numbers applied in field conditions then place a model with a particular machine, because they differed from one example to the next and tended to be applied quickly and irregularly. On a finished vehicle they are the last elements that pull a model out of the general register.
Cut the decal close to the artwork and soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water. As soon as it begins to slide freely, slip it into place and hold it there. The base should be glossy, or a matte veil will be left around the film. Press the water out with a cotton swab from the center toward the edges, use a decal softener over rivets and edges, and once dry unify the model with a matte varnish. With small elements such as numbers it pays to work one at a time and to have plenty of light above the desk.
