What the material is for

A parquet floor is visible over the largest area in an interior and is at the same time among the most laborious things that can be made in a diorama block by block. This material offers a shortcut: the pattern is printed on cardboard, so it only needs trimming to the size of the room and gluing into the setting.

Printing on cardboard

Cardboard has the advantage over thin paper of holding its shape and not waving once stuck down. A knife cut stays sharp and the floor lies flat even over a larger area. The artwork of the parquet is reduced to 1:35 scale, so the width of the individual blocks matches figures of the same scale.

Building tips

• Trace the plan of the room onto paper and guide the cut according to the template.
• Cut with a sharp knife along a metal ruler; a dull blade will fray the edge of the cardboard.
• Choose the direction in which the parquet is laid along the longer wall, as a floor tends to be laid in reality.
• Darken the cut edges with paint, or the light break of the cardboard will show through.
• Suggest wear with a dry pigment and a matte varnish at doorways and in places people walk through.

The material will be appreciated by builders of interior dioramas who are furnishing living rooms, halls or offices, and also by modelers of display case corners where the floor is seen from close up. Working with it is simple and even a beginning modeler will manage it. The package contains only the printed material. The setting, furniture, figures, glue and paints are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
