A figure of the Czech fighter pilot Josef Frantisek in 1:48 scale. An accessory for aircraft models and for airfield scenes in one forty-eighth.
Responsibility details are not available.
The name of Josef Frantisek is a byword in the history of Czech aviation. During the Battle of Britain in 1940 he served with No. 303 Polish Squadron of the Royal Air Force, flew the Hawker Hurricane, and he stands high in the lists of successful Allied fighter pilots of that summer. He did not live to see the autumn of 1940. The figure is therefore not an anonymous character for a scene but a specific man who can be stood beside a model of his machine.
Scale 1:48 is the most widespread one for aircraft models, so the figure suits most of the finished kits in a collection. A person about 180 centimeters tall comes out at just under four centimeters in it. That is a size in which a face can still be worked out, but the main job is done by the silhouette and by the color contrast of the equipment. The version and the number of parts are shown in the manufacturer's description.
It will be taken up by builders of aircraft in one forty-eighth who are preparing an airfield scene for a model, and by collectors who want a name tied to a specific machine in the display case. A person beside an aircraft also gives the model scale, because without one it is not obvious at a glance how big the machine is. Paints, glue and a base are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
