1:16 Assorted hands set No. 1 is a resin set of hands for large-format figures and busts in 1:16 scale, the first part of a numbered range.
Responsibility details are not available.
In 1:16 scale a figure stands around one hundred and twenty millimeters tall and the hand becomes a detail in its own right: the knuckles, the nails and the tendons on the back are all visible on it. The numbered range from the Italian manufacturer offers replacement pairs for such figures, and this part opens the whole series.
With a large figure the viewer looks first at the face and immediately afterward at the hands. A mistake in proportion or in the length of the fingers cannot be hidden under paint here the way it can in small scales. A well-modeled hand therefore raises the impression the whole piece of work makes, even though the part is barely two centimeters big.
Make the cut where the sleeve passes into the wrist, not in the middle of the forearm. The transition is then easier to hide under a cuff. Reinforce the joint with a wire pin around 0.8 mm in diameter. Fill the gap that is left with two-part modeling putty and shape the folds of the cloth into it while it is still soft.
Glue the hands on only once the rough assembly of the body is finished. A part already glued on gets in the way of sanding the joints and breaks off easily, and a second attempt at pinning then has less material left to work with.
