This item is not an aircraft model but an accessory set from ResKit. The box contains two 3D-printed resin AERO 1D drop fuel tanks of 300 gallon capacity in 1:32 scale. This type of tank was hung on the fuselage and wing stations of a number of carrier aircraft in the US Navy and the Marine Corps. The version is without a fin; an auxiliary tail fin is part of the set.

What it is for

Drop tanks are among the prominent items visible at first glance under the wings and fuselage. 3D printing offers a clean surface and fine detail that is hard to achieve on large injection-molded parts in 1:32 scale. The set suits builds of US Navy and USMC carrier aircraft that carried this type of tank.

Building tips

• Wash the parts in warm water with detergent to remove the remains of the mold release agent and of print resin.
• Cut the print blocks away with a sharp knife or a saw; do not break them off by force.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin.
• Apply a primer before painting; protect your airways and ventilate when sanding resin.
