Four BLU-1A incendiary tanks of seven hundred and fifty pounds, cast in resin in 1:32. Stores for machines used over Southeast Asia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The incendiary ordnance of the BLU-1 series took the form of a thin-walled tank that was filled with a thickened fuel mixture only just before being hung. It is precisely because of that that the BLU-1A type has no tail surfaces: it was released from low altitude, tumbled after separation and splashed its filling over a wide area. Simplicity was intentional, because a thin casing could be made quickly and cheaply, which mattered at the intensity of the fighting over Southeast Asia.
In the set there are four tanks in 1:32. The castings have a smooth, slightly bulged casing with a suggested filler neck and lifting lugs, that is with the elements that are the only more prominent details on a real tank. That is exactly why the quality of the surface matters more on this kind of ordnance than the number of parts; the smallest bubble or trace of the mold is visible at once on a smooth area.
Before building, look at each tank against a sharp light to reveal any unevenness and level those with fine sandpaper and water. Then lay on a primer, because only on that will it show whether the surface is really smooth. The tanks were as a rule in a metallic sheen or a light shade with color bands and lettering near the neck, which you will add from your own stock of markings. They were most often hung in pairs on the outer stations, where they did not get in the way of the other armament, and when building a diorama they look convincing even stacked loosely on a pallet by the runway.
