The version with the large flat wing

The (V)1 and (V)2/B variants carry sizable flat lifting surfaces, thanks to which the weapon glides markedly farther after release than the version with a cruciform arrangement. The package from Reskit contains two bodies and one AN/AXQ-14 pod. Resin printing keeps the large thin surfaces straight, which is essential with a span like that.

History and use

The original form of the modular glide weapon came about in the 1970s, and the wide surfaces were precisely its recognition mark. An operator watched the picture taken from the front of the weapon and steered it all the way to impact, or handed it over to another machine out of reach of the defenses. The configuration proved itself in attacks on well-defended structures that a crew was not allowed to approach. It was carried by Phantoms, by F-111 machines and later by the F-15E and F-16I types; releases from heavy bombers were tested with the large surfaces as well.

Working the parts

Check the long surfaces against the light for any bow; slight waviness is leveled by a brief dip in hot water and cooling under a glass plate. Strengthen the joints of the surfaces with the body with a drop of thick cyanoacrylate, which fills even a small gap. The base is a light finish on which the dark covers of the nose and the fine lettering stand out. Bring the transition between surface and body out slightly with a thin line.
