This injection-molded plastic kit from Miniart covers light wheeled tractors of the Standard N type in the 1938 model in airfield configuration. It is not a combat vehicle but the kind of equipment no airfield could do without during the war: the tractor towed trolleys with bombs, fuel tankers, starting units and the aircraft themselves on the ramp. In 1:48 scale the model pairs with aircraft kits and turns a lone aircraft into a whole scene.
The Standard N type belongs to the family of simple utility tractors of the 1930s with a cast frame, tall rear wheels and an open driver's position. Miniart has been covering this family for a long time and the manufacturer's catalog also contains its other versions in 1:35 scale, from the agricultural through the industrial to the military variant. The airfield configuration differs from the agricultural one above all in its wheels and in the equipment for towing trolleys in a train. Machines exactly like these moved between the ammunition store, the tankers and the ramp; their work was inconspicuous, but without it the aircraft would not have taken off.
The tractor is a small model with fine parts, so work with a sharp knife and cut the sprue gates with some margin. It is practical to paint the frame and the wheels separately and join them only after varnishing. Unify the base with a primer and apply the base color with an airbrush or with paint well thinned for a brush. The machine looks best with more pronounced weathering: paint wear on the fenders and the seat, grease around the engine and dust on the wheels. A dark wash will bring out the rivets and the edges of the frame.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
