1:35 German infantryman cleaning a rifle is a quiet scene from the Italian brand Royal Model that brings a moment away from combat into a diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
Caring for a weapon was one of the rituals a soldier repeated day after day, and Royal Model has made it the subject of a separate figure in 1:35 reduction. A figure bent over a stripped rifle is rewarding in scenes where nobody is shooting: by a wall, on the bed of a truck or near a field kitchen.
German infantry used the 7.92 mm Mauser bolt-action rifle with a turning bolt and a five-round magazine loaded from a stripper clip. Every weapon came with a sheet-metal case holding a cleaning kit: a pull-through chain for the bore, a brass brush, an oil can and rags. After rain or after firing, the bore had to be dried and oiled, otherwise corrosion threatened. While doing that work a soldier usually took the bolt out and laid it apart on a piece of cloth, so that the small components would not be lost in the dirt.
A quiet pose lets the face and the hands come out, so it pays to give the skin more layers than the uniform. Equipment set down around the figure will add a story to the scene, even though it is not part of the figure. Cloth looks better when the shade is not kept uniform and the elbows and knees are scuffed with a slightly lighter tone.
You get the figure unassembled and unpainted. Finishes and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
