Injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet KP-42 field kitchen drawn by a horse team in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. The set is not a figure on its own but a small diorama scene: the field kitchen cauldron unit itself, a limber, two horses and one crew figure in a seated pose. It is a rewarding addition to rear-area scenes from the Second World War.
The KP-42 field kitchen was a typical element of the Red Army's rear services in the Second World War. It served to cook and distribute hot food for soldiers in the field; the cauldron with its firebox sat on a chassis and was hitched to a horse team for moving. Equipment of this kind was an inconspicuous but indispensable part of supplying the units.
Cut the parts from the sprues, clean up the sprue gates and the mold lines and glue them with liquid cement for plastic; dry-fit the small parts of the cauldron and the running gear. Assemble and paint the horses and the crew figure separately. For the horses a base color as an undercoat, layering of the coat and a fine wash in the folds work well; pick out the metal parts of the kitchen with a dry brush. Finish the whole with dust and mud pigments for a convincing rear-area look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
