About product

Bronco 1:35 Land-Wasser-Schlepper (Mid-Production) - a plastic kit

This injection-molded plastic kit from the manufacturer Bronco captures the German amphibious tracked tractor Land-Wasser-Schlepper (LWS) in its mid-production version, in 1:35 scale. The set is richly detailed: the hull and the deck, clear parts, individual track links, photo-etched metal and additions for a water scene. The exact contents and the number of parts are given on the box.

The real subject

The Land-Wasser-Schlepper was an amphibious engineer tractor of the German army. Its hull had the shape of a tracked boat: on land it moved on tracks, and on water it was driven by a pair of large propellers. It was powered by a Maybach engine; on the road it managed around 35 km/h, on water roughly 12 km/h, and it could take up to about twenty soldiers. It served to pull boats up onto the shore, to tow equipment across beaches and to carry supplies onto the coast; originally it was also counted on for the planned invasion of England. The mid-production batch differs from the early one in details of the superstructures and the equipment. Only a small number of these machines were built, so they are among the less common and all the more interesting equipment.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and paint the running gear and the interior before you close the hull up - once it is glued you will no longer reach them. Glue the link tracks with liquid cement and shape them while tacky over the rollers so that they follow the running gear naturally. On an amphibian, distinguish the waterline - darken the underwater part, add limescale and algae and weather the parts above the water with dust. Create the weathering with washes in the recesses and pigments for mud and dust effects on the running gear.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of German amphibious and engineer equipment of the Second World War
  • Builders of water and coastal dioramas
  • More experienced modelers who can handle individual track links and photo-etched parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The mid-production batch differs from the early one in details of the superstructures and the equipment. Bronco offers both variants.

On water the Land-Wasser-Schlepper was driven by two large propellers; on land it ran on tracks like a tank.

The set contains individual track links and photo-etched parts, so it is suited rather to more experienced modelers.
