Injection-molded plastic kit of the mortar carrier from the LAV family, the eight-wheeled armored vehicles of the US Marine Corps. 1:35 scale, made by Trumpeter. The same manufacturer also covers the LAV-25, the anti-tank LAV-AT and the recovery LAV-R versions.
The LAV family derives from an eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier of Swiss design that was built in Canada for the needs of the US Marine Corps. The vehicles are amphibious, with drive to all wheels and a fairly high cruising speed on the road, which made them the backbone of the fast reconnaissance battalions. The LAV-M version carries an 81 mm mortar on a rotating roof platform and fills the role of indirect fire support. Unlike the basic form it therefore has no turret with an automatic cannon, and its silhouette is lower and flatter. The vehicles proved themselves in Operation Desert Storm and later in Iraq and Afghanistan.
With wheeled vehicles it is the way the vehicle sits on its wheels that decides the result. Take care that all eight wheels stand level on the surface, and make the tires a more matte shade than the hull. The open mortar platform is a rewarding place to add cargo and equipment. Apply the dust on the sides and in the wheel arches with pigments in two coats, so that a natural transition from the lower hull upwards is created.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
