This is a scenic accessory for building dioramas, not a model of a vehicle or a figure. The base represents a street corner with a water pump and is made in 1:35 scale, the most common format for armor and military figures. The footprint measures roughly 15.5 x 15.5 cm, a size suited to one vehicle with a few figures or to an intimate scene with a single focal point.
The base deals with the most laborious part of a diorama, the groundwork with the texture of paving, curbs and adjoining surfaces. Shaping terrain from compound and waiting for it to dry fall away, and the scene is flat and stable from the start. A corner composition with a pump gives the scene a natural center around which figures can be placed so that they have a reason both to move and to stop. The subject refers to a Normandy setting, so it suits equipment and figures from the Second World War in western Europe.
Before painting, clean the base and let it dry thoroughly, then apply a primer to unify the surface. Stone and paving look natural if they are painted not in a single shade but in several close tones allowed to blend. A dark wash emphasizes the joints, while a dry brush pulls out the worn edges of the paving. Soften the transitions between the paving and the surrounding soil with pigments applied dry and fixed only once everything is arranged. Around the pump it makes sense to suggest damp and moss, but sparingly, so the scene stays legible.
The base is supplied as a standalone scenic accessory. Figures, vehicles, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
