About product

The real subject

The StuG III Ausf. G was the most numerous version of the German turretless assault gun built on the chassis of the Panzer III tank. It carried a 7.5 cm gun with a barrel 48 calibers long, a weapon effective even against armored targets. The StuH 42 grew out of the same chassis, but instead of the gun it was given a 10.5 cm howitzer meant above all for field fortifications and infantry.

Late production

Vehicles from the later production batches can be told apart by, among other things, the rounded gun mantlet known as the Saukopf, and by the changes to the machine gun position on the roof of the fighting compartment. It is these late forms that the kit is named for. The kit is named for both subjects, the StuH 42 and the StuG III Ausf. G; the exact parts breakdown is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Cut the parts free with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand off what is left. Paint the road wheels and the lower hull before the tracks go on, or the brush will no longer reach them. Leave the small parts on the roof of the fighting compartment until last so that they do not snap off while you handle the model. Wash and degrease the model before painting. The thinner and the thinning ratio follow the paint manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.

Who it is for

The kit suits modelers who build German vehicles in 1:35 scale and who want a pair of closely related vehicles with different main armament in the display case. Paints, glue, filler and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
