The T-55 was a Soviet medium tank that spread to dozens of armies after the war and stayed in service with many of them for decades. The T-55A version is a later stage of the same machine. The tank had its powerplant in the rear of the hull, which can be seen from outside only once the covers are removed, so this part of a model tends to be skimped during the build until the modeler decides to show it.
The set brings the transmission in heightened detail and is intended to complete a T-55 or T-55A model in 1:35 scale. It comes into its own above all where the rear of the hull is meant to be open, that is, in a maintenance scene, with the covers swung back or with the vehicle stripped down in a workshop. An overview of the parts, the material and the kit the set is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Go through the set before you start building the hull, because fitting is easier while the space is still accessible. Test each part dry and sand the mating faces as needed. The suitable glue is given in the manufacturer's instructions; apply it sparingly and let the joints cure without load. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. The transmission reads better in a restrained finish, with a dark wash laid into the recesses over the base shade and only a few places picked out with metallic sheen and traces of oil.
The set is aimed at modelers who are building a T-55 with the rear of the hull open or a workshop scene. The set is intended to complete a model, so count on obtaining the kit separately. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
