An empty truck bed or a bare workshop floor on a diorama gives away that the scene has not been thought through to the end. That is exactly what this set is for: it offers sheet metal transport cases in 1:35 scale that can be placed practically anywhere - in a truck bed, on a ramp, under a shelter or in the corner of a field workshop. The word universal in the name matters here; the cases are tied neither to one army nor to one period and serve equally well in a period and in a present-day scene.

Composition and placement

With cases, their arrangement matters more than their color. If you stack them exactly on top of one another into a regular column, the scene goes stiff. A slightly irregular pile looks more credible: the bottom layer aligned, the top piece turned a little and slightly overhanging, one piece leaning on its side against a wall. It also pays to make sure the height of the pile does not hide the main thing in the scene.

Painting sheet metal

• Choose the base shade according to the setting of the scene, not according to the case itself - a uniform base holds the scene together.
• Battered sheet metal is easy to do: dark paint applied with a sponge on the edges and corners, then a fine rusty tone into the largest scuffs.
• A dark wash brings out the pressed ribs and the outline of the lid; draw the excess off with a damp brush before it dries.
• A dry brush with a metallic shade along the edges creates the impression of metal polished by frequent carrying.
• On cases destined for mud, work the pigment in from the bottom edge upward, not evenly over the whole side.
