Three-dimensional printed decals with metal belts for the cockpit of the Beaufighter Mk. X, reduced to 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Beaufighter in the Mk. X version was among the toughest anti-shipping machines of the Second World War. A pair of radial engines gave it speed, four cannons in the nose gave it punch and under its wings it took unguided rockets or a torpedo. Over the North Sea and off the Norwegian coast it attacked convoys in a low pass, when the crew saw the enemy deck from a height of a few meters.
This set deals with the instruments of the cockpit in a different way from metal. The instrument panels and the side panels are printed in layers on a carrier film, so they have depth, glossy dials and colored lettering, and yet they are applied like a decal. They are complemented by photo-etched steel restraint belts, which bend and hold the shape of their sag.
Level the surface under the decal and varnish it to a gloss, or a milky veil will stay under the film. Moisten only the backing paper, take the part off with tweezers and fix it with white PVA glue, with no setting solutions, because the layered print would be damaged. The belts are glued on at the very end, once the seat is finished.
Work against shipping was among the most dangerous tasks of all. The attack was made in close formation, some of the machines suppressing the vessel's defenses with gunfire while the rest dropped torpedoes from minimum height. A build in this role deserves stores matching the task and the wear that comes from salt water and from standing under the open sky without a break. On this type the crew compartment is well seen from above through the long canopy, so work on it will certainly not be wasted.
The kit of the aircraft is not part of the goods.
