Three mounted 12.7 mm heavy machine guns with belt feeders, cast in resin for 1:48 models of large naval helicopters. Made for door and ramp positions.
Responsibility details are not available.
From the mid-1960s the Sea Stallion was among the most massive helicopters of Western production, and its relatives in the special operations versions were still flying four decades later. The T64 series turboshaft units set on either side above the cabin gave the machine the lift to carry a whole platoon with its gear; their short exhausts pointed diagonally outwards just behind the air intakes, and on a low pass they were heard before anything was seen. A large machine, slow on the approach, could not rely on noise alone, however, and so it carried gunners in the side windows.
The GAU-16/A designation belongs to a modified form of the Browning M2HB heavy machine gun. Compared with the ground pattern it has a different grip, a reworked trigger and, above all, a feeder that leads the ammunition belt from the box into the breech so that it neither twists nor tears in the airflow behind an open window. The package offers three complete assemblies, which matches the usual fit of both sides and the rear.
The assembly can also be used in a diorama with ground crew, because the weapons were taken off the helicopter for maintenance.
