The cockpit of the A-4 is small and the canopy heavily glazed, so on a model with the canopy open the seat tends to be practically the only thing you can make out properly of the interior. The Escapac 1A-1 type was developed at the aircraft manufacturer and its shape is unmistakable. This item is a refining accessory in 1:48 scale, not an aircraft kit.
The A-4 was designed by Ed Heinemann as a deliberately small and light carrier attack aircraft. The delta wing did not have to fold, because the aircraft fitted whole onto a carrier elevator, and the low weight gave it surprising agility. It stayed in service for decades, went through Vietnam and a number of foreign users and still flies today as a trainer and aggressor type.
The seat takes a lot of work and it always pays off: a dark gray base, the seat cushions in a different tone, the straps brought out lighter and finally small color accents on the handles and the placards. Dry brushing brings out the edges and a dark wash deepens the shadows. It is exactly the contrast between the straps and the frame that makes the final impression.
