The replacement vacuum-formed glazing 1:48 Fairchild A-10A Thunderbolt II from Rob Taurus gives a model of the attack aircraft a thin, clear cockpit canopy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The canopy is vacuum-formed from thin transparent film and replaces the corresponding part of the plastic kit of the attack aircraft in the A version. The wall thickness is a fraction of what an injection mold can manage, so the frame looks delicate and the pilot's compartment is visible without distortion.
The machine from Fairchild Republic came about in the 1970s for close support of ground troops, and the whole airframe was literally built around a seven-barrel 30 millimeter cannon. Two turbofan engines carried high above the rear fuselage, twin vertical tails and an armored tub around the pilot were meant to ensure a return even after hits. The A version corresponds to the single-seat variant in which the type entered service and went through combat use in the 1990s.
Separate the part by carefully drawing a scalpel along the marked edge, then level the edge with a circular motion on fine abrasive paper. Try the fit dry until it sits exactly, and only then reach for glue for clear plastics. Cut-up tape will handle the masking of the frames, and at the end a coat of clear varnish is useful to even out the sheen.
