Fw 190 A-6 and A-7 in the R11 fit: turned antennas of the FuG 217 Neptun radar in 1:48 scale from MASTER. The metal antennas replace the fragile plastic parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
A turned metal accessory from the Polish firm MASTER: a set of antennas of the FuG 217 airborne radar, designated Neptun, for models of the night fighter versions of the Fw 190 A-6 and A-7 in the R11 fit, 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a replacement for small plastic parts that break easily on a model and tend to be inaccurately shaped.
The Fw 190 A was a single-engine fighter with a radial engine. In the R11 fit, some machines received equipment for night operations including an airborne radar; its antennas projected from the leading edges and the fuselage as an array of thin rod elements. That array is very prominent on a model, and the overall impression depends on how cleanly it is made.
Antenna rods are exactly the kind of part where injection-molded plastic runs into its limits: it has to be thicker than the scale would allow, and it bends anyway when cut from the sprue. Turned metal holds a straight axis, stands up to handling a finished model and keeps its tips sharp. Drill the holes for the antenna pins with a micro drill, working up gradually through small diameters, and test the depth on scrap plastic first. Fit the parts dry, check the symmetry of both sides by looking from the front, and only then fix the joint with a drop of thin cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease the metal with alcohol and spray a primer for metal; paint the antennas separately, otherwise beads of paint will build up in the thin sections. When cleaning the finished model, do not touch the antennas with a brush or a cloth, and use a soft air blower.
This is an accessory for further detailing of the model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
