An injection-molded plastic figure set of German and Romanian airmen with ground staff in 1:48 scale from MiniArt. This is not an airplane model, but a supplementary figure set for bringing aircraft models and airfield dioramas to life. The box includes figures of pilots and mechanics, along with a set of workshop equipment and tools; a photo-etched fret is also included for the finer parts.
During the Second World War, German and Romanian air units often operated together from shared airfields, especially on the Eastern Front. The set captures typical scenes of everyday activity – pilots ready for action and ground crews maintaining and preparing the aircraft. The figures work well for creating an authentic atmosphere of a field airfield.
Carefully remove the plastic figures from the sprues and glue them with cement for plastic; glue the photo-etched parts (tools) with cyanoacrylate (super glue). Apply a primer before painting. Skin, uniforms, flight suits and work clothing are all easy to work with acrylic or oil paints applied with a brush; bring out the depth with a wash and pick out details with dry brushing. Period photographs will help with choosing the correct uniform shades.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the aircraft model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
