A metal pitot tube cut for models of the OV-10 Bronco observation and light attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a single precisely turned part that replaces the plastic probe. It is made by the Polish brand MASTER, which specializes in turned metal accessories.
The pitot tube is one of the parts on a model that do not survive ordinary life in a display case. It is thin, it sticks out beyond the outline and it catches on everything the model brushes against while being carried. A plastic part does not bend at such a moment, it snaps, and the break is usually at a point where it can no longer be repaired decently. A turned metal part has two advantages over that: it springs, so it takes moderate loads without consequences, and even if it does bend it can be carefully straightened. On top of that it has a real bore, which a plastic part lacks or which has to be laboriously drilled.
Cut the plastic probe off at the root and level the surface with a file. Drill the hole gradually with several diameters, so that the last bit does not bite in and tear out the surrounding plastic. Insert the metal part dry and check its direction from several angles: the probe has to lie on the line of flight, and a tube glued in crooked spoils the impression more than any other detail. Glue it with thin super glue or with epoxy. Before painting, degrease the brass with alcohol and use a primer for metal; apply the paint thinly so that it does not clog the mouth. Fit the probe as one of the last steps of the build, and never press a cloth against it when cleaning the model: wipe the model away from it, not across it.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
