This injection-molded plastic kit captures the single-seat J-10A version in People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) service. For fighters, 1:48 is a popular compromise: the model is big enough for a well-detailed cockpit, landing gear bays and external stores, and it still fits an ordinary display case. The manufacturer is the Chinese company Trumpeter, which has had this subject in its program for a long time.
The Chengdu J-10 is a single-engine multirole combat aircraft with a delta wing and a canard foreplane. The aerodynamically unstable layout is kept in check by a fly-by-wire control system, which makes the aircraft agile and controllable at the same time. You can recognize the J-10A version by its single-seat cockpit and the rectangular air intake under the nose; series machines were powered by an afterburning turbojet of Russian origin. The later J-10B and J-10C versions differ from the A with a shaped air intake and newer equipment, so mixing up the variants shows on the model at first glance.
Finish and close the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you glue the fuselage halves together. Use liquid cement on the plastic; it wicks into the seam and leaves no excess. Sand and polish the seams on the belly and around the air intake, because gray camouflage brings out every unevenness. The best result comes from primer and airbrushing in two shades of gray; then apply the decals over a smooth gloss coat and unify the whole with a satin overcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
