About product

1:48 SAAB J-29 Tunnan instrument panel (Yahu Models)

The color photo-etched instrument panel from Yahu Models is a finished cockpit detail accessory, not an airplane model. The panel is made of thin etched metal with faithfully printed instruments and labels and is intended for models of the SAAB J-29 Tunnan in 1:48 scale. It replaces the plastic part from the kit and gives the cockpit a realistic look straight away, with no need to paint the dials by hand.

The real subject

The SAAB J-29 Tunnan was the first Swedish swept-wing jet fighter, nicknamed the Flying Barrel for its bulky fuselage. It served from the turn of the 1940s and 1950s and was among the most capable European jet aircraft of its day. The distinctive cockpit is a rewarding place to bring out detail.

Usage tips

Separate the etched panel from the fret with a sharp knife and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue. The color layer is delicate, so protect it from sanding and from aggressive thinners. The panel is usually built up by gluing two layers together, a base and a front mask, which creates the impression of recessed dials.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of jet fighters in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who want to raise the realism of a cockpit without painting
  • Anyone interested in Swedish postwar aircraft

This is an accessory, not a kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
