A set of precisely shaped self-adhesive masks intended for masking the wing leading edge of a Spitfire on models in 1:48 scale. The manufacturer is Omask, a Czech specialist in masking sets for plastic models. The masks are shaped to a particular kit, and this variant is intended for Spitfire models from Eduard. It is neither a kit nor a part of a model but an accessory used during painting.

Use

• Stick the mask onto the wing leading edge according to the placement supplied and press the edges down carefully so that paint does not creep under the film.
• Spray the identification stripe on the leading edge (yellow on a number of Spitfire schemes): the mask defines the dividing line between the stripe and the camouflage exactly.
• The recommended procedure: spray the lighter shade of the stripe first, let it dry, then mask and spray the camouflage (or the other way round, according to the scheme).
• Spray in thin coats and inward from the masked edge, which reduces the risk of paint seeping under.
• Remove the mask while the paint has only just set rather than fully cured; the edge then stays sharp and clean.

Why spray instead of using a decal

A sprayed stripe has no glossy edges and no step of carrier film, which on decals often show through, especially on flat camouflage. The paint also follows the texture of the surface and the riveting, so the result looks more realistic and there is no risk of the decal silvering. At the same time the risk that a long narrow decal will wrinkle or crack on a curved leading edge disappears.

Who the set is for

For modelers who build a Spitfire in 1:48 and want the cleanest, most faithful spray on the leading edge without using decals. Suitable for intermediate and advanced builders who work with an airbrush. Paints, thinners and the model are not included in the package.

The masks serve only to mask during painting. When spraying paints and working with thinners, work in a well ventilated space and use respiratory protection. Paints and thinners may be flammable. It contains small parts, so it is not suitable for small children.
