The instrument panel with its large-area displays, the side consoles, the seat and the seat belts are printed with raised three-dimensional detail and with the colors already applied in production, so they replace both painting and photo-etched parts. The set is shaped for the plastic Su-35S kit in 1:48 scale from Great Wall Hobby.

The real subject

The Sukhoi Su-35S (NATO reporting name Flanker-E) is a Russian multirole fighter of the so-called 4++ generation, derived from the Su-27 family. It is marked out by thrust-vectoring engines that give it exceptional agility, a powerful radar and a modern cockpit with large multifunction displays instead of classic dials. It is among the most capable Russian fighters in service today.

Application

• First sand the plastic cockpit parts smooth - the 3D decal is applied straight onto them.
• Release the part from the backing paper with tweezers (with some sets a brief dip helps) and lay it in place. A decal softener does not belong on these parts, it would attack their printed resin.
• Press it down gently so the relief beds into the surface; work calmly, the parts are tiny.
• The work is better suited to advanced modelers.
