Decals for the Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk.XIX in 1:48 scale from Xtradecal. Markings for the last and highest-performing photo-reconnaissance version of the Spitfire.
Responsibility details are not available.
The photo-reconnaissance Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk.XIX has been given its own sheet of markings in 1:48 scale by the British brand Xtradecal. The set is tied to this particular version and assumes a model that the customer obtains separately.
The PR Mk.XIX came about by combining the airframe of the late Spitfires with the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine and it was the last and highest-performing reconnaissance form of the whole family. It had no armament, and speed and ceiling were meant to keep it safe. Later machines received a pressurized cockpit and increased fuel capacity in the wing leading edges. You can recognize them by the deep nose with bulged cowlings, the smooth surfaces without gun ports and the missing gunsight. Most machines carried an overall PRU Blue shade, and some of them also flew in light pink for low-level flights. Reconnaissance Spitfires served the RAF long after the war and their operational career ended only in the mid-1950s over Southeast Asia.
An overall blue finish is rewarding but merciless to unevenness, so smooth the surface carefully before spraying. Before the decals go on, go over the model with gloss varnish. Hold the film down with a brush and press the water out from the center toward the edges so that no air stays anywhere.
