The sliding teardrop canopy was the most striking change the Typhoon went through in its career. It replaced the framed hood with side doors and opened up the pilot's view in every direction. This item offers exactly such a canopy in 1:48 scale, as a clear part for completing a model.
Trials of the sliding hood ran from the beginning of 1943, and aircraft carrying it began to appear with combat units during the summer of that year. From the autumn of 1943 production aircraft received it as standard and older machines were brought up to this standard in the field. Typhoons with the teardrop canopy formed the backbone of the British fighter-bomber force during the Normandy landings and carried unguided ground-attack rockets.
The sliding section can be fitted in the open position, which is the main reason a clear canopy is bought. It is therefore worth finishing the interior and the seat in detail and adding a harness. Try the part dry before fitting, correct any overhang in small steps and protect the finished canopy with masking tape for the whole time the fuselage is being painted.
The package on offer consists of the canopy alone. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not part of the price.
