About product

What the set is for

The instrument panel is the first thing anyone notices in the open cockpit of a model. The individual dials, meanwhile, are hard to paint with a brush at 1:48 and the result tends to be coarser than the real thing would be. Instead of painting, this set offers ready-made colored instruments that are fitted one by one to match a particular subject.

What the set contains

A sheet of three-dimensional color instruments after the pattern of American aircraft of the Second World War, printed on backing decal paper. The individual dials are formed in relief and colored in advance, with legible faces. The set is not tied to one kit; it is meant for use on any model where you need to fill an instrument panel.

Building and painting tips

The elements have no adhesive layer of their own. Cut the dial out of the sheet, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper into place with tweezers. Do not use a decal softener or a decal setter, as the chemicals would attack the printed resin. Spray the panel in advance with a base color to match the subject, coat it with a gloss varnish and let that cure, because an instrument with no adhesive of its own takes hold on exactly such a gloss surface; the surface must be smooth, clean and degreased. Choose the dials from period photographs and records of the subject and fit them from the largest to the smallest. The set also serves to repair a panel damaged during the build.

Who it is for

The set will please a modeler who is building older kits with coarse instrument relief, completing a cockpit from documentation of his own or building a panel from scratch. The work calls for tweezers and a steady hand, but nothing else in particular.

The package holds this set only. The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is universal and not tied to a particular model. The instruments are fitted one by one to match the subject you are building.

Yes, briefly. Cut the dial out of the sheet, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper into place with tweezers. Do not use a softener.

Spray it with a base color to match the subject, coat it with a gloss varnish and let it cure. The surface must be smooth, clean and degreased; the instrument takes hold on the gloss varnish.

For completing older kits with coarse instrument relief, for building a panel yourself or for repairing one damaged during the build.
