A cast pair of engines for the Horten Ho 229 flying wing in the large 1:32 scale. They replace the simplified parts from the Takom kit wherever the covers are left open.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Horten brothers had been building tailless wings since the 1930s, and their Ho 229 was meant to be a fighter and bomber that would fly 1000 kilometers with a ton of bombs at over 800 kilometers per hour. The second prototype took off at the beginning of 1945, ended after a few flights in a landing with one engine out, and the war never let the further examples into the air. The surviving third airframe lies today in an American collection as one of the most enigmatic designs of the end of the war.
On this machine the Junkers Jumo 004 engines sit deep in the leading section of the wing and, with the covers open, they make the most interesting view on the whole model. The box offers two complete units with an eight-stage compressor, a ring of combustion chambers and a nozzle, meaning the areas that an injection mold can only suggest roughly.
If you are building the machine with the covers closed, the set loses most of its point, so it pays to decide in advance how much of the installation will be visible. For the metal shades, dark steel lightened with graphite works well, together with light heat discoloration around the nozzle. The airframe kit is not included in the package.
