The IS-2, given in Western sources as the JS-2, was a Soviet heavy tank of the closing stages of the Second World War. It carried a 122 mm gun and heavy armor and was used to break through fortified positions and against German heavy tanks. Its silhouette with the long barrel and the low rounded turret is among the best known images of the fighting on the Eastern Front.
A plastic kit in 1:56 scale, that is, in the size established in tabletop wargames. The parts are on sprues and are separated with nippers. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; to finish it you need plastic cement, paints and basic tools.
Clean up the places where parts were nipped off and the parting lines, otherwise they will show through the paint. Before gluing, try the parts dry to see whether they line up, and only then apply the plastic cement. Soviet vehicles carried a uniform green finish during the war, on which edge highlighting with a dry brush and dust settled on the running gear come out well. The tracks and the lower part of the hull pick up the most dust, while the turret roof stays cleaner.
For modelers and tabletop wargamers alike who need a Soviet heavy tank in a size consistent with the rest of their collection. The smaller scale means fewer parts than on a 1:35 model, so the model also suits a quicker build between more demanding projects. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
