The real subject

The Mitsubishi A6M, known by the nickname Zero, was the main carrier fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The A6M5 version received a shortened wing with rounded tips and individual exhaust stacks on the radial engine, which added speed. The cockpit is clearly visible under a well glazed canopy, so detail in the interior pays off on a finished model.

What the set contains

Colored three-dimensional interior elements prepared for the A6M5 kit from Tamiya. They focus on the instrument panel with its dials, the side panels and the seat belts. The layered graphics have a fine relief, so the instruments look raised and the laborious drawing of dials with a brush is done away with.

Application

Spray the cockpit with a base color and let it dry completely; the surface under the elements has to be smooth, clean and degreased. Before applying, follow the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with the set. The application procedure differs between the individual ranges, and the instructions state whether the elements are applied dry or by the wet method. Separate the elements with a sharp blade, move them with tweezers and press them down with a soft tool so that they seat into the corners of the panels.

For a builder who wants a legible interior in a small scale without hand painting, and especially for a model with the cockpit canopy slid back. The work is quick but calls for fine tweezers, a sharp blade and a steady hand. The elements are laid down before the fuselage is glued, while the interior is accessible. The set does not hold a kit, paints or glue, unless stated otherwise.
