Aero L-29 Delfin SPACE 1:72 - colored 3D decals for the interior

The SPACE line from the Czech brand Eduard sits somewhere between a decal and a photo-etched part: the carrier is decal film, but the details on it have real thickness, so once applied they form a relief on the surface. The set belongs among the decals for aircraft models in 1:72 scale and serves to finish the cockpit of a model of the Aero L-29 Delfin trainer. It is neither a kit nor a complete resin interior.

The real subject

The Aero L-29 Delfin was a jet trainer of Czechoslovak design which, from the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, became the basic type for pilot training in a number of countries. The two-seat cockpit with seats in tandem is clearly visible under the glazing on a finished model, and that is exactly why on this type it pays to work out the instrument panels and the side panels more than on aircraft with a covered interior.

Building and painting tips

The element does not go into water: with a sponge and a drop of detergent, moisten only the backing paper, lift the part off with tweezers and fix it with PVA glue (white glue). The surface must be smooth, ideally sprayed with the base interior color - on a rough surface the element will not seat and air will stay trapped under the edges. Do not use a decal softener at all, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin and will ruin the element; the manufacturer does not recommend super glue. The raised detail on the plastic kit parts usually has to be sanded smooth so that the new part seats on a flat surface.
