About product

Avia Ba.122 Berlin 1936 - Frantisek Novak, kit 1:72

A plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand RS models. The boxing is tied to a particular aircraft associated with the name of the Czechoslovak aerobatic pilot Frantisek Novak and with the aerobatic competition in Berlin in 1936. The distinguishing feature of this variant is therefore above all the decal markings; structurally it is the same aerobatic biplane as in the other boxings of the type. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Avia Ba.122 was a single-seat aerobatic biplane of Czechoslovak design from the middle of the 1930s, which followed on from the B-122 series. It was a machine built for agility and for the strength of the airframe, with an open cockpit and a conventional layout with fixed landing gear. Czechoslovak pilots flew it in international aerobatic events in the second half of the 1930s, among them the one in Berlin in 1936. The specific results and placings of the airmen are not stated here.

Building and painting tips

On a biplane the setting of the upper wing decides the result - prepare a jig or at least a board with supports and glue only after thorough dry-fitting. Shorten the struts in small steps and glue them to the lower wing first, then fit the upper one. The bracing wires belong among the last steps: use thin elastic thread or stretched sprue and drill the holes before painting. Short-run parts need cleaning up and sanding of the mating surfaces. Glossy aerobatic liveries call for a smooth surface, so apply a primer under the finish and polish the surface; the decals will then settle without silvering.

Who the kit is for

  • Collectors of Czechoslovak interwar aviation in 1:72
  • Modelers with experience of short-run kits and biplanes
  • Anyone interested in sporting and aerobatic machines outside military subjects
  • Builders who want a model tied to a particular airman and a particular competition

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The main distinguishing feature is the markings of the particular aircraft given in the name. Any differences in the plastic contents are not stated here.

Rather not. Short-run parts and building a biplane with struts call for experience and patience.

The contents of the box are not stated here. The bracing is usually added from your own material, for example thin elastic thread.

Sand the surface smooth, apply a primer, polish the surface with a fine abrasive and only then spray the color in thin coats.
