An injection-molded plastic model of the American supersonic strategic bomber Convair B-58 Hustler in 1:72 scale from Italeri. It is a large model of a striking aircraft with a delta wing; the box contains injection-molded plastic parts in gray and clear, a detailed cockpit, landing gear and decals for several American markings. Given its size and complexity, it is a build suited rather to more experienced modelers.
The Convair B-58 Hustler was the first American supersonic strategic bomber, brought into Strategic Air Command service at the start of the 1960s. It was powered by four turbojets slung in nacelles beneath the delta wing and was capable of flight well above the speed of sound. A characteristic feature was the large jettisonable pod section under the fuselage, which carried both the bomb load and fuel. Its active service was fairly short, and other types replaced it in the strategic role.
Glue the parts with modeling cement for plastic; align the large surfaces of the delta wing and the fuselage carefully, and fill and sand the joints. It pays to assemble the engine nacelles and the landing gear carefully according to the instructions. The typical polished metal (natural aluminum) finish of the aircraft calls for a good primer and metallic paints laid on with an airbrush; different shades between panels will give the model depth.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
