An injection-molded plastic kit of the Canadian Canadair CL-215 amphibious firefighting aircraft in 1:72 scale from the French maker Heller. The kit consists of about a hundred parts and offers decals for several operators: French, Spanish, Greek and Canadian. It is a rewarding and fairly easy build of an unusual utility machine with the striking silhouette of a high-wing aircraft and a boat hull.
The Canadair CL-215 was the first aircraft designed specifically for fighting forest fires. As an amphibian it could land both on the ground and on water, and in a few seconds in flight it could scoop up a large load of water straight from a lake or the sea and then drop it over the fire. It was powered by two piston radial engines. Thanks to its reliability and its ability to make repeated scoops it became an icon of firefighting in the Mediterranean and in North America, and its development line serves to this day.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with thin modeling cement for plastic. Finish the cockpit and the interior before you close up the fuselage, and mask the extensive cockpit glazing carefully while spraying. Lay down a primer and the colors with an airbrush, transfer the decals over a gloss coat and bring out the panel lines with a wash. The striking high-visibility colors of firefighting machines stand out on a smooth, clean surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
