The British Crusader Mk. III cruiser tank in 1:72 scale gains more accurate covers, mesh grilles and fenders with this metal set. Target kit: Revell.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fast British tank of the desert fighting has been given a metal set by the Italian brand Royal Model that adds thin fenders, mesh grilles, dust covers and small grab handles to a model in 1:72 scale. In the small scale this is the quickest way to get rid of the soft edges that injection molding imposes. The set is intended for the Revell kit.
The designers bet on pace: a long chassis with five large road wheels and Christie suspension drove the vehicle over hard ground at a speed the German tanks of the day could not keep up with. The Mk. III version lost the auxiliary machine-gun turret and received a two-man turret with a 6-pounder gun, a weapon that could finally deal with the enemy armor. It made its debut at El Alamein in the autumn of 1942. Desert sand, however, troubled both the cooling and the running gear, and unreliability remained the weak point of the whole type; later the machine served mainly as a gun tractor or an anti-aircraft vehicle.
The ventilation covers over the engine bend into a gentle arc, not into a sharp edge. Desert coloring needs clear tonal grading, otherwise it looks flat. Apply dust with pigment from the bottom upward and let it settle in the corners around the fittings.
This is a separately sold metal accessory; the vehicle model and the chemicals are not part of the price.
