The real subject

The F/A-18F is the two-seat configuration of the Super Hornet carrier-based multi-role aircraft. It differs from the older Hornet in its larger airframe, its angular air intakes and its longer range, thanks to which it took over a wider range of duties on the decks of aircraft carriers. The rear seat is filled by a second crew member who looks after the weapon systems, so the machine also serves where one pilot is not enough for the job.

What the set solves

This is a set of photo-etched parts made of thin metal sheet. In 1:72 scale, photo-etch can render flat and thin-walled shapes that injection-molded plastic is too coarse for: grilles, loops, instrument panels, hinges and similar small items. Which particular parts the set contains, and exactly where they belong, is given in the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with the set.

Building and painting tips

After etching, the parts stay attached to the carrier sheet by thin tabs. They are best cut through on a hard surface with a sharp blade pressed down vertically, not by twisting, otherwise the metal bends. Make the bends along a sharp edge or in a photo-etch bender and press them down in one plane. Metal will not bond with solvent cement for plastic; use a tiny amount of super glue applied with a pin. Before painting, degrease the metal and give it a base coat, otherwise the finish will chip during handling. Whether the parts are supplied painted is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

This is an accessory set for a model. The aircraft kit, the paints, the glue and the decals are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
