An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Grumman F6F Hellcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from Academy. The package allows the F6F-3 or the F6F-5 version to be built and contains clear plastic for the cockpit glazing and decals. It is a popular and well-fitting model with fine surface detail.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War designed as a direct opponent to the Japanese Zero. It was markedly more powerful and faster, well armored and tough, and in the fighting in the Pacific it achieved an exceptionally favorable kill ratio. The F6F-5 version brought changes to the engine and the canopy and the ability to carry unguided rockets.
Use thin cement for plastic and finish and paint the cockpit before closing up the fuselage. When building the F6F-3 version, watch the modification of the canopy according to the instructions. Apply a primer before painting and lay the paints down with an airbrush. Late Pacific schemes are typically an overall dark blue (Glossy Sea Blue), on which a restrained emphasis of the panel lines pays off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
