An injection-molded plastic model of the British carrier-borne antisubmarine aircraft Fairey Gannet in the AS.1/AS.4 versions in 1:72 scale from Revell. The box allows the machine to be built with a detailed cockpit, a weapons bay and the characteristic pair of contra-rotating propellers on one shaft. The box holds decals for several markings – among them machines of the Royal Navy, the Royal Australian Navy and the German naval air arm.
The Fairey Gannet was a carrier-borne antisubmarine aircraft of the Royal Navy that first flew at the end of the 1940s. Its peculiarity was the coupled turboprop powerplant with contra-rotating propellers: two turbines drove a common shaft and in the economical mode one of them could be shut down to save fuel on long patrols over the sea. It carried a crew and hunting equipment against submarines; it served with other navies as well.
Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and sand the joints down. Pay attention to the pair of contra-rotating propellers – they must go together and point the right way. Polish the framed cockpit glazing before fitting it and edge it with masks. Apply a primer before painting. Spray the naval camouflage and the undersides with an airbrush; apply the decals onto a gloss coat with a decal softener and unify the surface with a final varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
